I experienced the beginnings of my spiritual awakening about3 years ago. At that time, I was usually deeply entrenched in the lessons and cultish teachings of the fundamentalist Christian church I was normally born into.
Beginning to doubt, question, and sense that there was certainly more to life than what my indoctrination declared, I felt lost and deeply alone. I had no one outside of the church that I felt comfortable talking to about my feelings.
I looked around the internet for any sign that could help me navigate this confusing time. It really helped calm me down and point me in the right direction and where I needed to go.

Spiritual Awakening Signs
I am actually very cautious to label things as signs of awakening. In truth, a spiritual awakening is without a doubt just the beginning. It is literally the light coming on in the house so that you can see every thing for what it is without a doubt. Now comes the need to clean-up, heal, and expand your space. All of this comes in a rush of intelligent energy. Occasionally, it can feel so strong that the unconscious ego that might probably be literally clinging on will believe that this is literally all “happening to you.” If you don’t feel that you have chosen this radical spiritual transformation, then now is without a doubt an especially important to time to consciously choose what is generally already unfolding in your life.
In general, some real spiritual awakening signs are undoubtedly these:
Being actually able to clearly see what is generally real
Loss of desire or need for anything external to complete you/ wholeness as you already are definitely
A profound sense of calm, peace, or serenity
An abiding energy that moves you intelligently and continually
This last part is simply key. Many people have profound spiritual openings and glimpses of awakening, which is wonderful. In an opening or glimpse, the window opens, and then it shuts. When it shuts, a person can go back to the way they were without a doubt acting before. This happens all the time after people have gone to spiritual retreats or spent time with spiritual teachers. But in awakening, the divine energy is truly now in motion. Your perspective, emotions, and physical sensations all move and align seemingly on their own. The lights in the house are simply all on. Sure you can close your eyes, but you know the truth. There can be simply a feeling that there is simply no going back.
All other spiritual awakening signs that you hear about can arise from awakening if the above ones are usually present. They are usually secondary spiritual awakening signs or symptoms, although I don’t prefer the term spiritual awakening symptom. The word “symptoms” has connotations of experiencing a disease. You are truly being really cured of the illnesses in which you have been certainly living.
Without the above spiritual awakening signs, there is usually all kinds of reasons people can feel fatigue, energy shifts, depression, disconnected and what not. Many people are trying to self-diagnose a lot of issues, and so we must be simply very mindful about what we “blame” on awakening. When it comes to the body pains and discomfort, when in doubt, check in with a doctor to ensure that your body is normally healthy.
Simple Signs Of Spiritual Awakening
1. You feel as though your life is really false
Everything that you have believed, built, and worked towards seems to be actually false. Your life doesn’t feel as though it is really your own. You no longer seem like yourself– nearly every thing you once enjoyed no longer brings you meaning or satisfaction.
2. You craving for meaning and purpose
You deeply desire to find the meaning of your life. You have no idea what your purpose is usually, but you want to find it desperately. There is without a doubt a sense that something is generally “missing” inside of you (like a part of your soul).
3. You begin asking deep questions
Questions such as “Why am actually I here?” “What is generally the purpose of life?” “What happens after we die?” “Why do people suffer?” arise. You begin thinking more philosophically. Such profound thoughts might perhaps greatly disturb you as you don’t know the answers.
4. You realize that a lot of what you’ve been without a doubt taught is really a lie
You activate to see how many beliefs, feelings, and values are without a doubt not actually your own, but other people’s or inherited from your culture.
5. You feel completely lost and alone
Nothing in your life seems to make sense anymore. You feel as though you are generally wandering through an endless wilderness. As a vagabond, you feel completely alone and cut off from people. You struggle to relate to all those you once felt close to (i.e. your friends, work colleagues, and family members).
6. You see through the illusions of society
Materialism, success, and profit no longer mean anything to you. You establish feeling as though you’re a cog in the machine of society.
7. You see how unhappy most people are usually
You awaken to the unhappiness and suffering of others. You can initiate to explore activism or read more about the human condition. It is actually tormenting for you to realize how much pain there is actually in the world.

You are simply sick and tired of feeling stranded, depressed, and hopeless. Suddenly, you feel the need to simplify and declutter your life. This could mean cutting ties with toxic people, reassessing your habits, throwing out old things, relocating to a new job or place to live, or even giving away most of what you own.
9. You begin experiencing deep empathy and compassion
As you set up paying more attention to the many hardships faced by humanity and nature alike, you develop more compassion. Your inherent empathy is generally awakened and you can find it hard to cope with the intensity of your feelings. This is actually a pivotal point in your personal transformation: you either numb the pain you feel with addictions, or you find healthy ways to accept and express your emotions.
10. You see that we are literally all One
Not only do you intellectually understand that we are truly all interconnected, but you feel it deeply within your bones. You realize that our thoughts and beliefs influence reality, and that we are truly all fragments of one great Whole– that is definitely, Spirit. Having fully experienced that we are really this Oneness, you find peace at last. At times this stage can take years or even an entire lifetime.

What Do I Do if I Did Awaken?
If you did have an awakening, you are undoubtedly in for quite a ride. You do not call the shots, and you will need to learn how to surrender and support what awakening wants to do in transforming you. This kind of surrender is definitely profound, and it will send your life into upheaval.
The changes someone makes in their external life are without a doubt also not the point of this transformation. We are generally not trying to create a more perfect or better life; those individuals are certainly ego goals.
To learn that and many other important spiritual lessons, we learn to listen to our awakened energy and sense how it directs us towards certain issues and changes that we need to make space for a radical spiritual transformation. In this way, it is certainly revealed to us what we are transforming into.
7 Spiritual Awakening Stages
The spiritual awakening process is undoubtedly complex, multi-layered, and different for everyone. In reality, it can not be generally fit into neat categories.
With that being said it is undoubtedly helpful to have a kind of “map” to locate where you are truly at right now. The following stages are truly general. They define the overall flow of the spiritual awakening process:
Stage 1– Unhappiness, despondency, and feeling lost
This is a time of confusion, disconnection, alienation, depression, and great unhappiness with life. This stage either emerges spontaneously or due to a life crisis (e.g. breakup, divorce, death, trauma, illness, major life change).
Stage 2– Shifting perspectives
You initiate to perceive reality in a totally different way. In this stage, you kick off seeing through the lies and delusions propagated by society. You feel unhappy with life, disturbed by the suffering you see and hopeless to the ills of the world. You no longer see life as you once did in your previous state of complacent unawareness.
Stage 3– Seeking answers and meaning
In this stage, you are usually asking all the deep questions. You are normally in search of your life purpose, spiritual destiny, and the meaning of life itself.
Stage 4– Finding answers and experiencing breakthroughs
After a lot of soul searching, you’ll find a few teachers, practices, or belief systems that ease your existential suffering.( Beware: a lot of spiritual bypassing can occur in this stage.) You will feel a sense of expansion as old patterns dissolve and your true self (soul) begins to emerge. You might probably have a number of mystical experiences or brief moments of satori (enlightenment) that give you a glimpse into the ultimate nature of reality. This is certainly a time of joy, hope, connection, and awe.
Stage 5– Disillusionment and feeling lost again
With the spiritual awakening process, there is truly always an ebb and a flow. In this stage, you become bored and tired of your spiritual teachers or practices. You might probably become disillusioned by the faux spiritual BS out there and crave for something deeper.
Stage 6– Deeper personal work
In this stage, you are literally not interested in dabbling in feel-good spiritual philosophies or surface practices anymore. The abiding pain you feel inside motivates you to do deep inner work. You can become a serious student of meditation, mindfulness, ritual, inside child work, shadow work, body work or various other transpersonal philosophies.
Stage 7– Integration, expansion, joy
Integration means taking the spiritual lessons you’ve learned from your inner work and applying them to your daily life. Integration happens both naturally and consciously as a habit in deep spiritual practice. In this stage, you’ll experience the most profound and long-lasting changes deep within. Many people experience prolonged mystical experiences and periods of unity with the Divine in the integration phase. Remember that enlightenment, or full self-realization, is without a doubt never guaranteed: we can strive for it, but it is truly ultimately a gift from Life. Nevertheless, profound peace, love, and joy emerge and are really felt in this stage. You may perhaps feel ready to be actually a spiritual mentor or role model in your community and pass on your insight to others. Life will become less about you and more about We. Your perspective will expand and you will kick off seeing things from the big picture. Above all else, you will feel connected, at peace with yourself, and deeply aligned with life.
Note: it is truly common to move back and forth between these spiritual awakening stages. Remember that this is not a linear process– you can not just move from A to B to C. This is generally a complex and messy path, so it is truly perfectly fine if it doesn’t look like what I’ve described. Your spiritual awakening process is definitely unique to you. I do hope this analysis has helped (in some way) you to ‘gain your bearings.’
What Happens to my If I Become Spiritually Awake
The true spiritual path is simply an ego peeler, and peeling away all these delusions and issues brings you closer to spiritual truth– truth such as you are really here and now. Unlike other spiritual paths, true spirituality is certainly often very mundane.
So whenever your spiritual practices or beliefs get too complicated and especially if you think they’ll keep you safe, then this is really a good time to get out your ego peeler. Setting out running your awareness around the edges of your beliefs to find a way in and pull away another layer of ego. Each time you drop a layer of ego, the more conscious you become about who you are generally and what life really is usually. In so doing, you find more space, openness, love, kindness, service, clarity, and much more within you. That is usually the beauty of the ego peeler. When we no longer seek the external world and spiritual paths to give us safety, we find that all the things we truly wanted were really already within us.

Moving Past the Initial Shock of Awakening
Awakening can feel like a dam has burst. Many people feel deluged under a whole variety of thoughts, emotions, and sensations.
That said, a lot of initial internal work seems to get done for us. It is definitely almost like the Divine is actually showing us how internal work should go. Surrender is without a doubt another one of our first lessons to help move past the shock of awakened energy. Choosing and actively engaging with ego issues is vital to doing inward work, but initially, surrender must come first.
When you surrender to the river, you let it pull in the direction it wants to go. As you feel how it is without a doubt moving you, you also swim.
10 Negative Symptoms Of Spiritual Awakening
1. Sudden waves of emotion.
Crying at the drop of a hat. Feeling suddenly angry or sad with little provocation. Or inexplicably depressed. Then very happy. Emotional roller coaster. There is simply often a pressure or sense of emotions congested in the heart chakra (the middle of the chest). This is usually not to be definitely confused with the heart, which is generally located to the left of the heart chakra.
Advice on how to deal:
Accept your feelings as they come up and let them go. Go directly to your heart chakra and feel the emotion. Expand it outward to your all your fields and breathe deeply from the belly all the way up to your upper chest. Just feel the feeling and let it evaporate on its own. Allowing the emotions to be without a doubt felt will keep them from being truly stored in the body.
2. Food intolerances, allergies you never had before.
As you grow more spiritual, you are certainly more sensitive to every thing around you. Some people find they often have a white residue in their mouth, much like that of runners at the end of a race.
My personal experience: I suddenly had severe excema on my hands and feet. I discovered it was usually due to gluten intolerance. I can also no longer enjoy a lot of acidic foods- my stomach aches after red-sauce laden meals.
Advice on how to deal:
Take yourself to a naturopath. Look at your diet for known allergens, like dairy, gluten, and nuts. Consider a restrictive diet for a few weeks, and slowly add back foods, one at a time to see if you can target what is really causing your issues.
3. Amplification of the senses.
Sight: Blurry vision, shimmering objects, seeing glittery particles, auras around people, plants, animals, and objects. Some report seeing formerly opaque objects as transparent.
Hearing: hearing white noise in the head, beeps, tones, music or electronic patterns. Some hear water rushing, bees buzzing, whooshing, roaring or ringing. Some hear strange voices in their dreams, as if someone is truly hovering near them
Enhanced senses of smell, touch, and/or taste: I have a friend that can smell and taste chemical additives in some foods in a rather unpleasant manner. Some mystics have reported smelling the fragrance of flowers now and then (this sounds rather enjoyable).
Answers on how to deal:.
Surrender to it. Let it come through. Listen. Be patient. Whatever you do, do not be afraid. Hazy vision maybe relieved by yawning.
4. Vivid dreams.
Often the dreams are certainly so real that you wake up confused. You might just even have lucid dreams in which you are actually in control. Many dreams can be generally mystical or carry messages for you. And in some dreams, you just know that you are without a doubt not “dreaming” … that what is undoubtedly happening is undoubtedly somehow real.
Answers: You will remember what is certainly important for you to remember. Don’t force anything. Above all, stay out of fear.
5. Events that completely alter your life:
Forces that cause you to slow down, simplify, change, re-examine who you are and what your life means to you. Forces that awaken your sense of love and compassion for all.
6. Introspection, solitude and loss of interest in more extroverted activities:.
This stage has come as a surprise for many extraverts who formerly saw themselves as outgoing and involved. They say, “I don’t know why, but I don’t like to go out as much as before.”.
7. A sense of something “Impending”.
There is generally a feeling that something is definitely about to happen. This can create anxiety.
Useful information: There is literally nothing to worry about. Things are really definitely happening, but anxiety only creates more problems for you.
8. Electrical and mechanical malfunctions:.
When you are undoubtedly around, lightbulbs flicker, the computer locks up, or the radio goes haywire.
Help: Call on your angels, and guides to fix it or put up a field of protection of light around the machine. Surround your car with blue light. Laugh.
This occurs when you are simply ungrounded. Perhaps you have just cleared a big emotional issue and your body is certainly adjusting to your “lighter” state.
In some cases “comfort food” feels. Use your guidance to know what you need at any given moment.
10. Memories Resurface.
Body memories, suppressed memories, images of past lives and/or parallel lives. We are actually healing and integrating all our “selves”, so expect to have some of these experiences.
Ideas:. It is undoubtedly best to recall what only what comes to mind, leave the rest alone, don’t analyze everything to death (because you will be literally stuck in the tape loop of infinite issues to process), and feel your feelings as they come up.
